Abstract

CARE India has been working in TB control programme in West Bengal since last 12 years. Between December 2001 and July 2005, CARE had implemented CIDA funded ‘Community Based DOTS Project’ in five districts of West Bengal. As a result of its successes, the project was extended to five more districts for a period of two years. CARE’s IMPACT project has been able to improve the case detection rates and also the treatment success rate. Presently, CARE is dealing with the Multi Drug Resistant Tuberculosis patients of West Bengal as an extension of the earlier programme. In that project the component of MDR in TB patients was also addressed.
