Abstract

The Azim Premji Foundation conducted a field study between January to April 2022 covering 108 teachers, as many schools, and 1644 students in classes reopened 2-5 across 41 districts in five states to capture the efforts of teachers towards the recovery of learning loss since schools.Various measures have been initiated, and the central and state governments plan others to address learning loss as schools reopen. But, clearly, teachers will be pivotal to the effort of addressing learning loss. Thus, the efforts of public school teachers who have consistently demonstrated their commitment and capability toward student learning were tracked over the period of the study. To understand the extent of learning recovery during the duration of the study, assessment of students in specific abilities in language and mathematics from two classes below (and not the current class) were also done; the only exception was class 2, wherein abilities from only one class below were assessed.
