Abstract
It is said that for theatre to work and to convey a
story to its audience, the rst thing you need is the
willful suspension of disbelief. Everyone watching
knows that the story unfolding in front of their eyes
isn’t real. Everybody knows that they are in a large
hall somewhere and the stage is lled with “actors”.
Yet, once the play begins, as an audience you suspend your disbelief. You buy into the story and the
setting, and if it is skilfully told you are transported
completely into another world.
