Abstract
The focus group of the National Curriculum Frame-work (NCF) has recognised that the curriculum design for ‘Health and Physical Education’ is very challenging in terms of both content and evaluation and has rightly chosen to take a very comprehensive view of the subject. In the position paper, the group has tried to address the concerns related to health in all its dimensions, nutrition as also other social factors that contribute to the ‘overall well being’ of children at primary, secondary and senior secondary schools. There is a candid acceptance of the problems of under-nutrition, stunted growth and communicable diseases affecting children, not just during the schooling period but throughout their lives.
