Abstract

This commentary examines the global trend towards limiting judicial power and its implications for liberal constitutional democracy. Focusing on judicial reforms in Israel and developments in countries including India and Brazil, it considers how weakening judicial review can diminish citizens’ access to legal remedies, undermine institutional checks and balances, and strengthen legislative or executive supremacy. The article highlights the importance of judicial independence and review in safeguarding constitutional rights and democratic governance.
