Abstract

Every few years, books on Smith, Marx, Keynes and Hayek are published. Several economics journals publish articles that reassess, reinvigorate and reinterpret their economic ideas and also apply their economic ideas to contemporary issues. In this introduction to the special issue on the history of economic thought (HET), we present the nature and status of HET within the academic enterprise and then provide the background to the papers. We finally conclude with an overview of the contributions of these papers.
