Abstract

This article examines the Lalgarh movement in West Bengal, which emerged in response to state repression and police actions against Adivasi communities. Drawing on findings from a fact-finding visit, it traces the development of the resistance since November 2008 and highlights how the movement extended beyond opposition to repression to address issues of livelihood, development and local self-governance.
