Abstract

The article explores approaches to making community development sustainable beyond the involvement of nonprofit organisations. Drawing on PRADAN’s experience, it argues that development should focus on strengthening communities’ social capital, agency and capacity to independently identify and pursue their own priorities. It highlights the importance of community-led institutions and collective decision-making in ensuring that development gains continue and spread after external organisations withdraw.
