Abstract

This commentary examines the World Development Report 2020: Trading for Development in the Age of Global Value Chains, focusing on the role of global value chains (GVCs) in promoting trade, economic development and structural transformation. It discusses the opportunities and challenges that GVC participation presents for developing economies, with particular relevance to India’s trade, production, employment and development strategies.
