Abstract

The report examines health inequalities in India and shows how socio-economic disparities disproportionately affect marginalised communities in the absence of Universal Health Coverage. It compares health outcomes across caste, religion, income, gender and rural–urban groups, finding significant disadvantages among Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Muslims, poorer households, women and rural populations. The report also highlights how the COVID-19 pandemic further intensified these existing healthcare inequalities.
