Abstract

This article examines the life and legacy of Jaipal Singh Munda, tracing his remarkable journey from missionary education and Oxford to international hockey and India’s Constituent Assembly. It challenges narrow understandings of democracy by highlighting Munda’s role as an Adivasi intellectual, political leader, and constitutional thinker who advocated for cultural plurality and the rights of Scheduled Tribes. The article situates his contributions within broader struggles over identity, land, religion, and representation, while exploring how his legacy continues to shape contemporary Adivasi assertion in Jharkhand.
