This article examines proposed changes to labour laws in India during the COVID-19 pandemic. It argues that the government has used the crisis to advance pre-existing policy agendas, presenting them as necessary for economic recovery. The authors contend that critiques must go beyond identifying flaws in the rationale for reforms and instead interrogate the motivations behind introducing such changes during a global crisis.
