Abstract

The Epilogue to the book presents a commentary on one of the recurring tensions highlighted in the introduction chapter, centred on the theme of child rights. The authors present a dialogue among several participants of the symposium who initiated discussions on child rights and illustrate these alternative perspectives, points of consensus and interpretations via salient themes. The themes include a range of questions such as ‘Who is a child’, ‘whose responsibility is the child’, ‘what rights’? along with covering an exchange of ideas related to implementation of rights, child labour and schooling. The Epilogue concludes by reiterating that the intent of the dialogue was not to reach a resolution but to provide a flavour of the ongoing nature of the dialogue around contentious issues.
