Abstract
Emotions within the classroom are often treated as obstacles to be sidestepped or effectively regulated in order to move towards the real business of teaching and learning. Within the rhetoric of objectivity and reason, emotions take second place; often held responsible for ‘poor’ judgement. The devaluing of emotions means that certain kinds of traits are celebrated more than others in the traditional classroom, like obedience to authority; or a ‘well-behaved’, silent classroom is often presented as a model class.
