Abstract

Jute is a very important natural fiber which is grown in countries like India, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Nepal, Vietnam etc. It is mainly used for packaging along with several other uses. Being environment friendly, it has much potential for more diversified use. The entire jute sector globally employs more than 4.0 million people including farmers, workers in the jute mills/industry and people working in the Jute Diversified Product (JDP) sub-sector. India is the largest producer of jute goods in the world, accounting for around 70 per cent of world production. It is also the largest user of jute goods.
