Abstract
This commentary examines Pakistan’s abolition of the controversial “Master of the Roster” practice following a 2023 Supreme Court judgment and considers its implications for India. It explains how Pakistan’s new system limits the Chief Justice’s unilateral control over case allocation and the constitution of constitutional benches. The article evaluates the potential lessons for India in strengthening judicial transparency, institutional accountability and the collegial functioning of the higher judiciary.
