Abstract

This opinion article examines the death of Anjel Chakma, a student from Tripura, as a reflection of broader concerns about discrimination, institutional accountability and constitutional equality in India. It critiques the uneven access to justice and the institutional delays following the assault, linking the incident to questions of citizenship, dignity and equal protection under the Constitution. The article argues that constitutional values require active public and institutional commitment to ensure that every individual’s life and rights are treated with equal importance.
