Abstract
This book review examines Alf Gunvald Nilsen’s Dispossession and Resistance in India: The River and the Rage, focusing on the Narmada Bachao Andolan and its resistance to displacement caused by large development projects. It discusses how the movement was shaped by interactions among diverse social groups, interests and demands, while situating the struggle within wider debates on development, land acquisition, neoliberalism, social justice and the role of the state.
