Abstract

The article examines Myanmar’s 2015 general election and the prospects for democratic transition following the National League for Democracy’s decisive victory under Aung San Suu Kyi. It discusses the country’s history of military rule, ethnic conflict and majoritarian politics, while highlighting Myanmar’s geopolitical significance for India. The article also considers the challenges facing the incoming government, particularly the treatment of ethnic and religious minorities and the unresolved status of the Rohingya Muslims.
