Abstract

The article examines the impact of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on economic inequality in India. It argues that the growing dependence on indirect taxation places a disproportionate burden on poorer households, while the declining share of corporate tax reduces the progressivity of the tax system. The article highlights how increased reliance on GST may deepen existing inequalities and calls for a more equitable approach to public revenue generation.
