Abstract

The article examines the need to realign India’s Union Budget 2021–22 priorities in response to the economic and social impacts of COVID-19. It calls for increased public spending on health, education and livelihoods, with particular emphasis on strengthening MGNREGA and the National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM) to address rising unemployment, rural distress and gaps in social-sector infrastructure.
