Abstract
The article argues that India’s Scheduled Tribes should be recognised within the global framework of Indigenous Peoples, particularly in relation to International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples. It highlights the historical, cultural and territorial diversity of India’s 700-plus Scheduled Tribe communities and calls for recognition of their distinct identities, rights, ancestral connections and struggles for justice, sovereignty and cultural survival.
