Abstract

The Union Budget 2026 carries on the trend of increased dependence on state governments for social sector spending while the share of the union government diminishes. A deeper look at the trends in allocations for some major schemes in the social sector, and an analysis of the reduced revised estimates demonstrates the increasing role of state governments in social sector expenditure.
